Artwork on the web is the visual craft that ships alongside the code: illustration, typography, motion and 3D, produced to be viewed in a browser rather than printed. In the Flash era it was authored and delivered in the same file as the application logic, which put designers and developers in one timeline.
That shared timeline is what I remember most about building these. A jewellery retailer’s site had to survive three languages and a client who quite reasonably expected print-quality imagery on screen, so the interesting work was never the visual on its own — it was keeping it intact through a content management system, a custom component framework and whatever the connection of the day could carry. The pieces that impressed me most were the ones where the craft was doing something the tooling did not hand you for free.
Please find selected artwork posts below. Topics vary from a multilingual Flash storefront built on a custom CMS and component framework to 3D motion graphics driving a music video.
