A campaign of a kind ended yesterday in Estonia setting a new milestone in the history of digital signing. During the campaign 11 126 Estonians gave their digital signature for the record.

Estonian ID card (eID) has been in development since 1997 and more than 1 million of Estonia's 1.342 million people have it. Yet, as its usability is low, several campaigns like the world record setting campaign, aim to increase the public awareness of the possibilities that ID card offers.

Currently a card holder is eligible for a great number of public services, e.g. online banking, eSchool, ID-tickets for public transportation, e-voting and services of many private sector companies that use ID card to identify their clients or issue discount rates in stores replacing client cards.

EU-funded campaign is considered a success and has been filed to Guinness World Records in London.
